Last Enemy

The skating for the TV drama we worked so hard on last year is finally being aired. It's a 5 part drama about what happens when England goes CCTV crazy and links everything to a central database.

By the time you read this 2 episodes will have gone, but I have a suspiscion all the familiar faces will be in the 3rd episode! (or maybe the 4th or 5th!) Catch it if you can, 9pm each Sunday. You need to keep your eyes open for the skate protesters and skate riot! It took us 8+ hours to film and will probably occupy only 2 minutes of film on TV, but that's show business!

Flow Grace and Tricks

Firstly well done to Fred and his forward powerslide! Here's a picture of Fred executing said stop at the February "mastering 10 ways to stop course".

These "Mastering" courses have been fully booked every month and are clearly the way to go. So now it's time for the course you do - once you've become a master!
The Flow, Grace and Tricks course! Many more of you than we expected are booked for this course. Its the toughest course we run and requires solid edge control (on one leg) before you can even hope to start. Worthy of just watching - we already have a few spectators booked!

Survivors wil be impressive! This is scheduled for Sunday Afternoon March 16th, so if your already doing the open skate, you'll have an excuse to hang around and see whats going on with the experts!

Sk8 street wise

Lots of interest already in this course, which will get you skating the streets, kerbs , steps and hills of Eastbourne "in amongst the traffic". Deal with dogs, blind man bumps at crossings -we even cover going to the loo on skates! (hows that for attention to detail!) the course takes 4 hours and has several rest stops and a break for lunch. Places wil be limited so book with Tim now - as it is outside please ensure you are able to attend BOTH dates as the second is a reserve in case the first choice is rained off.

Attendees should be able to heal brake stop with confidence and be comfortable with Stride 2 and parallel turns. (10 miles round Eastbourne, just doing stride 1 is no fun!) If you need more information about the First Sk8streetwise of the year click here!

Cost is £40 per person and the dates are Saturday 5th AND 12th April (beginning at 11am at the Turning Circle). Payment in advance, payable to Tim Wheals, 32 Lawns Avenue, Eastbourne, East Sussex. 10 people maximum, first come first served!

Wheals On!

I've started a little blog (with a play on words based on my name) called WHEALS ON! and you can register your comments! All the instructors will be writing up their lessons and tips. Get all the insider thoughts and information as they happen...
As you know we're experimenting with several "interactive" mediums at the moment to see which ones you like most. Have a look at the RSS feeds and Facebook club as well!

Eastbourne Carnival Procession

As you no doubt remember Sk8school is sponsoring the "Lark in the Park" charity event this year and organising the skate helpers at this event. If you want to assist with bucket collections and marshalling at the event please let us know. The usual suspects of course have already volunteered.

Skate to Ski

Do you ski? Do you want to give it a go?

We're running a ski trip this March and we've negotiated a huge Sk8school discount! Email Tim to reserve your place. Confirm your place with payment a week later! (£10) We'll meet up at the Turning Circle (or other convenient location) at 6pm then "optimise cars" for the convoy up. First come, first served, as there are only 20 places. If you want to be involved and are available from 6pm Monday 24th March contact us. Be Quick as there are limited places!

Kids Club

The last one INDOORS is nearly here. We will be issuing bring a friend tickets at the last indoor one at Shinewater on March 16th (12 midday). Then its all change!
Because in April, firstly Kids Club is going outside AT THE TURNING CIRCLE, second it will be 11am not 12 and finally it will be EVERY WEEK!
We fully expect the Kids Club to grow every week and intend ot run it right through the Summer and if plans allow, the Winter too.

Looking ahead

Once we get outside, we will resume our regular group lessons and shop intro's 11am Sunday mornings at the TURNING CIRCLE. Private lessons will of course be available anytime. Every month (and more frequently if demand dictates) we will run our half day intensive courses on Mastering stopping, turning, backwards, street and for the brave "flow grace and tricks". Additionally the breakfast skates and skate n chips sessions will begin again (some of you will have already have noticed the Sk8 M8's page on the website). The dates for the First Sk8 Streetwise of the year have already been announced (with reserve dates for rain), watch this space for the treasure hunt...

Paris Skate

Our colleagues in SkateInstructor.com and SkateFresh are organising a trip to Paris to include skating in the Friday night skate, lessons if you want them and various tours. Totally fantastic skating fun! See here for details or contact Tim.

Here's an interesting one - when its done on wheels its called skatercross, basically an assault course race track to skate round as fast as possible. This article shows it on ice!
http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddballs/article.html?in_article_id=87097&in_page_id=46

And the here's something I am far less convinced by, a bouncy skate thing...

Apparently the inventors claim it will allow a skater to travel up to 25KMH ! Wow (have they not heard of Stride 3?) Maybe they need to do the streetwise course! The idea is you sort of pedal along and every down stroke cranks the chain (in the second image) and gets you going "more efficiently".

Not convinced myself ! Give me stride 3 anyday. The more observant among you will also notice there is no heel brake to deal with all this extra speed...
Half well thought out then!

Shops...
