Sk8 M8's - Skate Events for Eastbourne Skaters, London, Brighton and beyond!
Regular Skate Events
As well as skating lessons, Sk8school also supports the Sk8 M8s. This is an informal group of skaters that organise FREE and "at cost" skate events covering London, Eastbourne, Brighton, Hastings etc. The Sk8 M8s keep in touch via the Facebook page, TXT service and Twitter - all sponsored by Sk8school. Nobody else runs as many or as varied FREE and at cost skate events! The regular events are listed, but usually once a month we put on something "special" for example :- Roller LaserQuest, Skate Holidays in Paris, Igloo Racing!, Skate Treasure hunts etc.

Southwick Chinese New Year Roller Disco
Ian James and the Southwick crew are once again running a spectacular Chinese New Year themed Roller disco on February. The Sk8 M8s will be out in force and we'll be heading over to help with lessons, attend the roller disco and go out for a meal afterwards. If you'd like to join in - all the information will be at the usual places - TXT, Twitter, Facebook etc.

Skate Dancercise 8pm Shinewater
Join in the fun at our regular weekly Learn to Skate Dance sessions at Shinewater. It doesn't matter if you've just had your first lesson or are an experienced skater.
Typically we have about 20 skaters of all ages and abilities learning the moves! Whether its the "Shinewater Shuffle" or Thriller by Michael Jackson you can be assured of a terrific night out, meeting new people and getting a bit of a workout into the bargain! Added to that - your skating improves by the minute too!
If that doesn't tempt you enough - then check out the price - FREE for your first time, FREE when you introduce someone new! £5 otherwise, for a 2 hour, entertaining and challenging session.
This session also includes an OPEN Skate, which means for the same price, you can just come along and practise in the uncrowded hall right through the year!This will be ideal for those inevitable wet evenings! Winter D8's with Sk8 M8's - Sunday Morning Skating Eastbourne Sk8school Quiet Skate
Every Sunday at ShineWater Sports Centre October to April 10am-11am £3. Around 20(ish) people only - first come, first served - booking and paying in advance monthly is preferable. Limited spaces to ensure no overcrowding. 20 Sk8 M8's and Sk8school private Eastbourne Skate Lessons only in this session.
At 11am we run the Skating Kids Club (£3) and open the floor to anyone who dares! But note it will be crowded and noisy! Read More....
FREE Open Skate (TM)(C) - Every WINTER Sunday 11am Shinewater
Every Sunday you can practise your skating for free for an hour at Shinewater. Or if you want to, you can join Kids Club (5-13 yrs) and learn to skate through games. (£3). This is Easbournes only FREE indoor skating - make the most of it! (WINTER months only)
The session can be loud as Kids club encourages excitment and of course being Free it can get crowded. However it is just a practise session for all ages and abilities to learn and improve. There are no games allowed. A small group learn dance steps for example! See a video of their early efforts here! (Link to Calamity Janes).
Sk8 M8's Beach BBQ - Wednesday 1st July 7pm - Turning Circle
Read the last Review at the WhealsON blog! These events happen infrequently because we are fussy about suitable weather. The notice for them is short - typically a day or two. Brighton Bikini Skate - August 8th
Coincidentally Asha's birthday and the 10th anniversary of Skatefresh skate school, everyone has decided to congregate at the Hove Lawns all day! Rumour has it there will be a street skate, bbq and disco. Its all free and unofficial so turn up and join in the fun. More Here...
Eastbourne Skaters Sk8 m8s - London Tour - August 16th
When Airbourne makes its too noisy to teach on Eastbourne Seafront, Sk8school takes the Sk8 M8s to London, for a tour of Hyde Park, organised by our London Branch. We stop for a picnic and take the opportunity to do the London Street Skate!
This year the date Co-incides with Skate London which makes it the perfect opportunity to join in a number of skate activities in one event.
This trip costs in the region of £5 to cover train fare and is one of the more memorable events of the year. (Perhaps Paris or Amsterdam wins?)

Sausage and Roll - Eastbourne Breakfast Skate (TM)(C)- Summer Only!
The Breakfast Skate runs every alternate Saturday from April to October, Starting at the Turning Circle at 9am. A leisurely roll down to the Holy Well Cafe for breakfast and back by 11am, Nothing intense, Free and Fun! The next Saturday breakfast skate meeting at 9am at the Turning Circle is displayed on the Event countdown (Top of this page). Sk8 and Chips (TM)(C)- Eastbourne Night Skate (Quad and Chips?) - Summer Only!
Meeting People from all walks of life, all ages and always having someone to skate with... Sk8 M8's
Sk8 and Chips running on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the month. Starting as usual at the Turning Circle. A nice little prom skate, with some relaxing chat and fish and chips with some good company. Nothing to flash or pacey. Sit on the beach and if time allows perhaps finish off with an Ice Cream or coffee before heading off to the turning circle again for the finish. Sk8 M8's Friday Crawl - Eastbourne Night Skate
Meeting at the Holy Well end, on Friday Nights, waiting for dusk, then a quick sprint (ok leisurley roll) to Cafe Land for a little open Air refreshment.
Eastbourne Skaters SK8 M8's Treasure Hunt
Starting at the Turning Circle at 10:30am for Registration, teams of up to 4(ish) will race for the treasure and take home the trophy till next year! Race might not be the right word, as the fastest back is not always the winner, you will need brains as well as speed!
Points are awarded for correct answers to clues and puzzles, being back first, making the judges laugh and being inventive and observant. Sign up via the contact us page, via email, TXT or however you prefer.
Taking part is FREE and typically teams can expect to be entertained for about 2 hours.

Eastbourne Skaters Sk8 M8s - Brighton Picnic Skate - June 6th
On June 6th we'll be running a picnic skate, covering several miles of Brighton and Hoves seafront. This event will be free to attend - you just need a picnic and some skates! There will be regular rest stops and the pace won't be too frightening, so feel free to join in. The intention is to start at around 10am and reach the picnic site for about midday. The exact route is still to be worked out and will appear here closer to the time.
Most likely starting at the Marina and heading towards Hove/Worthing, stopping around midday at the Hove Lawns.
There will also be opportunity to just attend 50% of the route if you are not sure of your stamina! Obviously with the notoriously random nature of the surfaces encountered in Brighton seafront, we recommend full pads and full education! Make sure you've attended the Sk8school Streetwise course. As a minimum we'd recommend a decent stride 2 and solid heel braking on hills! (Don't fall into the trap of thinking you can do it without a heel brake!)
